Baby Jenifer was usually one of the luckiest little monkeys in her troop. She had the softest fur, the sweetest smile, and a charm that made every adult monkey adore her. Just yesterday, everything seemed perfect for her—she got the best fruit, the coziest cuddles, and even the oldest monkey in the group allowed her to nap on his warm belly. It was a dreamy day, the kind every baby monkey wished for.
But today… oh no. Today was not one of those lucky days.
The trouble began early in the morning. Baby Jenifer wandered happily through the branches, humming her little monkey sounds, completely unaware that her “not-so-lucky day” had already started brewing. Meanwhile, Libby—the older, more dramatic female monkey—was sitting on a high branch with her tail flicking back and forth. Everyone in the troop knew that when Libby’s tail moved like that, she was in one of those moods: playful, unpredictable, and ready to cause a little chaotic fun.
Jenifer didn’t notice any of that. She approached Libby with her usual innocence, hoping maybe she would get a cuddle or a piece of fruit like yesterday. But instead of a warm welcome, Libby suddenly scooped Jenifer up with both arms and—without warning—placed the baby right on her lap!
Now, normally this might not sound like a disaster. A lap could mean comfort, right? But with Libby, nothing was simple. When Libby put a baby on her lap, it usually meant one thing: she was about to bounce, wiggle, flip, or spin with absolutely no gentle pace at all.
Jenifer sat there wide-eyed, realizing that she had officially lost the peaceful luck she enjoyed the day before.
Libby began her routine. She rocked her lap back and forth, making Jenifer slide around like a tiny fluffy ball. Jenifer tried her best to cling to Libby’s fur, but the movement was too fast. Her little face twisted into the most dramatic, confused expression—half scared, half offended, and maybe even a little dizzy.
The other monkeys noticed immediately.
Some laughed.
Some gasped.
Some covered their mouths in shock.
Yesterday, Jenifer had been treated like jungle royalty. Today, she was more like a bouncing toy in Libby’s playful hands.
After a few moments of bouncing, Libby switched to grooming. But her grooming was not gentle or patient. She groomed with the speed of a squirrel after stealing fruit—fast, chaotic, and not very accurate. Poor Baby Jenifer’s fur stuck up in little puffy spikes, making her look like she’d been struck by a tiny lightning bolt.
Jenifer squeaked softly, giving the troop a look that clearly said, “Help me… please?”
But before anyone could rescue her, Libby stood up… with Jenifer still on her lap. This caused Jenifer to slide down, hanging onto Libby’s belly for dear life. Libby didn’t seem to notice at first. She walked proudly, swaying like she was showing off a new accessory. Meanwhile, Baby Jenifer bounced against her like a little backpack that wasn’t tied on properly.
Finally, Libby paused and looked down, realizing the baby wasn’t sitting on her lap anymore but was instead clinging awkwardly to her tummy. She made a curious “hmm” noise, picked Jenifer up again, and placed her back on her lap as if saying, “No no, stay where I put you!”
Jenifer melted into a helpless floppy position, accepting her fate.
The troop couldn’t stop laughing. Even Rojo, the troop’s calmest male, couldn’t hold in a chuckle. Yesterday, Jenifer was the lucky princess. Today, she was the unwilling star of Libby’s comedy show.
Eventually, one of the older auntie monkeys approached and gently retrieved Jenifer from Libby’s grip. Jenifer clung to her savior, still dazed, her fur sticking out like wild grass. The older monkey nuzzled her softly, giving her the comfort she desperately wanted.
Jenifer sighed the deepest little baby sigh, as if saying, “I miss yesterday.”
But even as she rested, the troop kept whispering and giggling. Baby Jenifer had experienced the ultimate unlucky moment—Libby’s unpredictable lap—but she had also made the whole troop smile.
And for a baby monkey, even a messy, chaotic, unlucky day could still become a story everyone loved.
