Monkey vs Dog

In a quiet village nestled between thick forest and rice fields, lived a mischievous monkey named Kalu. He was clever, quick, and always up to something. The villagers knew him well—he’d steal bananas from their stalls, swing from their rooftops, and play pranks on anyone who left their lunch unattended.

Just across the village square lived a dog named Bongo. He was the complete opposite of Kalu—loyal, calm, and a bit lazy. He belonged to the local farmer and spent most of his days lying under the mango tree, chewing on sticks or chasing away crows.

One hot afternoon, the village square was quiet. Most people were inside escaping the heat. Kalu, looking for excitement, spotted Bongo sleeping near a food cart. A half-eaten roti (flatbread) was resting beside the dog. Kalu’s eyes lit up.

Silently, he crept toward the snack. But Bongo’s ears twitched. Before Kalu could grab it, Bongo opened one eye, then the other, and growled—a low, warning rumble.

Kalu wasn’t scared. He grinned and sat on a nearby post, dangling his feet and staring at Bongo as if to say, “Catch me if you can.”

Suddenly, Kalu leapt down, snatched the roti, and ran. Bongo barked and charged after him. The chase was on.

Through the market stalls, over fences, across roofs—they ran. Kalu was nimble, leaping from tree to tree, while Bongo stayed on the ground, barking wildly. Villagers peeked out of their homes, laughing at the hilarious spectacle.

At one point, Kalu stopped and teasingly waved the roti from a low branch. Bongo jumped, trying to grab it, but missed and landed in a bucket of water. Kalu shrieked with laughter.

But Bongo was not angry. In fact, after a few minutes, he began wagging his tail, his playful spirit awakened. Kalu, surprised, dropped the roti beside Bongo and backed away. The dog sniffed it but didn’t eat it. Instead, he nudged it toward Kalu.

From that day on, the “rivals” became unlikely friends. Kalu would bring fruit from the trees and share it with Bongo, and Bongo would guard the area while Kalu played. Their wild chase had turned into a bond no one expected.
